Definition of simile
A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two different things. Unlike a metaphor, a simile draws resemblance with the help of the words “like” or” as. Therefore, it is a direct comparison.
The function of simile
            Using simile attracts the attention and appeals directly to the senses of listener or reader encouraging their imagination to comprehend what is being communicated. In addition, it inspires life-like quality in our daily talks and in the character of fiction or poetry. Simile allows reader to relate the feeling o a writer or poet to their personal experience. Like metaphor, simile also offer variety in our ways of thinking and offers new perspective of viewing the world.

·   Her cheeks are red like a rose.
·   He is as funny as a monkey.
·   The water well was as dry as a bone.
·   He is as cunning as a fox.
